Barbados welcomed tourism leaders, travel professionals, media representatives, and industry stakeholders this week for Connect Barbados 2026, the island’s flagship business-to-business tourism conference hosted by the Barbados Tourism Marketing (BTMI).

The event, held from June 22 to 26 at the Hilton Barbados Resort, is themed “Rooted in Culture, Powered by Partnership.”

The conference opened with a ceremony featuring a panel discussion and cultural reception that highlighted Barbados’ unique tourism offering, where local heritage and international hospitality brands work together to create authentic visitor experiences.

Delegates were introduced to the island’s rich cultural traditions through live demonstrations by local artisans showcasing basket weaving, textile arts, batik design, pottery, and visual arts.

Entertainment was a major feature of the opening celebrations, with performances by renowned soca artist Alison Hinds and the Christ Church Foundation Steel Orchestra, reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of Barbadian music and culture.

Guests also sampled a range of culinary creations prepared by award-winning chefs Javon Cummins, Damian Leach, Marvin Applewhaite, Trevon Stoute, and the Hilton culinary team. Signature cocktails crafted by mixologist Shane McClean complemented the evening’s festivities.

At the heart of Connect Barbados 2026 are pre-arranged one-on-one business meetings connecting international delegates with local hotels, attractions, transportation providers, and destination management companies.

These sessions are designed to foster new partnerships and support the continued growth of Barbados as a leading global tourism destination.

The programme also includes an awards ceremony recognizing journalists, content creators, tour operators, and industry partners whose efforts help promote Barbados internationally.

As the conference concludes, delegates will participate in Attraction Day tours and a cultural finale featuring fire dancers, stilt walkers, masqueraders, and other performers.

This year marks a milestone, with a 51 per cent increase in international buyers, welcoming 92 buyers from 83 companies. “The strong participation levels are a clear testament to the sustained interest in Barbados, particularly as the destination benefits from significant investment in new hotel developments, the refurbishment and expansion of existing accommodation, and improved airlift through new gateways,” said Andrea Franklin, Chief Executive Officer at BTMI.

Minister of Tourism and International Transport, The Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill, noted, “We are focused on increasing visitor expenditure while expanding opportunities for Barbadians to participate in, invest in, and benefit from the industry. We want the rewards of tourism to flow throughout our communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.” -TradeArabia News Service
