Hospitality operator Atmosphere Core has unveiled its latest Core Impact sustainability figures, demonstrating significant progress in renewable energy adoption, circular waste practices, and marine conservation across its Maldivian resorts.
“Sustainability is at the very core of our operations and forms the bedrock of our belief system, right alongside The Joy of Giving,” Stephane Laguette, CCO, tells us.
All operational properties across the portfolio maintained Green Globe Certification, with OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, and OBLU SELECT Sangeli achieving Green Globe Gold Member status for five consecutive years of compliance.
Concurrently, the group’s spa brand, ELE | NA Ayur, attained Gold Accreditation from Sustainable Wellness across its wellness operations.
Clean energy integration expanded significantly across the portfolio through rooftop and floating solar photovoltaic systems, generating 7,941,086 kWh to cover 13 per cent of the group's total energy demand. This solar output displaced more than 2.14 million litres of diesel and avoided 5,752 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Resource conservation was further supported by on-site water desalination and glass bottling plants that eliminated over 2.11 million single-use plastic bottles, while operational measures avoided 1.48 million plastic straws.
At OBLU SELECT Sangeli, circular waste management advanced through an on-site biogas facility that converted nearly 140 tonnes of organic kitchen waste into over 26,000 cubic metres of biogas, offsetting the equivalent of 13,500 kg of LPG fuel.
Operational efficiencies were also reinforced across the supply chain following the complete centralisation of dry goods procurement, a move that eliminated millions of single-use plastic packaging items in favour of bulk paper alternatives and reusable distribution pallets. In the marine environment, the group expanded its coral restoration footprint to 360 installed frames and 16,643 planted coral fragments.
Resort marine biology teams recovered 14 abandoned ghost nets - repurposing sections into guest awareness merchandise - and ranked among the top five regional contributors of sea turtle encounter data to the Olive Ridley Project database.
Community engagement led by the Atmosphere Foundation broadened across 26 initiatives, focusing on long-term local resilience and livelihood development.
The foundation's flagship climate mitigation project planted 3,722 clumping bamboo plants across 45 locations to bolster coastal soil stabilisation and carbon sequestration, running alongside structured community vocational training, school infrastructure upgrades, and preventive healthcare partnerships.

OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI maintained Green Globe Gold Member status and recorded a low potable water consumption rate of 4.95 kilolitres per occupied villa.
OZEN LIFE MAADHOO’s marine biology team ranked among the top five regional contributors of sea turtle encounter sightings to the Olive Ridley Project database.
OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO Ramped up renewable power generation to 608,831 kWh, with solar accounting for 11 per cent of its total operational energy demand.
OBLU SELECT Sangeli features an active reef restoration initiative with 8,620 planted coral fragments across 165 installed frames, alongside an on-site biogas plant processing kitchen waste.
OBLU SELECT Lobigili avoided 383,000 single-use plastic straws and generated 1,825,009 kWh of solar energy in shared operations with adjacent Ailafushi.
OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi maintained a 16 per cent solar energy share of total island demand, displacing 1,322 metric tonnes of CO_2 emissions in combined operations with Lobigili.
Atmosphere Kanifushi maintained an exceptionally low solid waste output of just 1.7 kg per occupied room while recycling 90,894 kilolitres of treated wastewater for landscaping irrigation.
VARU by Atmosphere secured a 14 per cent solar share of total resort power demand while serving 240,458 litres of drinking water exclusively via on-site glass bottling.
RAAYA by Atmosphere
achieved the portfolio's highest clean-energy proportion, generating 1,541,286 kWh to supply 21 per cent of the resort’s total energy needs.
