Barceló Hotel Group has expanded its presence in Asia with the opening of Occidental Bangtao Beach Resort on Phuket’s Bang Tao Beach, marking the group’s second property in Thailand after Barceló Coconut Island.

The opening follows a management agreement announced in June and adds a new beachfront resort to the group’s international holiday portfolio in one of Thailand’s leading tourist destinations.

The resort features 202 rooms and suites across 15 categories, including 86 units with direct swim-up access from private terraces.

A large pool extends through much of the outdoor area, while direct access to Bang Tao Beach connects guests with the Andaman Coast.

Dining is a key part of the resort, with facilities including the Beach Club Restaurant & Bar, which overlooks the beach and offers Italian and Thai cuisine alongside live music and entertainment. Other options include a buffet restaurant, poolside snack bar and beachfront café.

"The opening of Occidental Bangtao Beach Resort marks a new step in our growth strategy in Asia, allowing us to strengthen our portfolio with a property that perfectly complements ideal holiday offerings: a prime beachfront location, a distinctive product, and a comprehensive range of leisure and dining options. With this, we are strengthening our presence in Thailand and our capacity for continued growth in a market with significant potential for international travellers," comments José Canals, Chief Operations Officer for the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Asia at Barceló Hotel Group.

Leisure facilities include sports activities, yoga, massages and cooking classes, alongside a kids’ club. The resort also has four meeting and event spaces, including a ballroom accommodating more than 200 people.

The opening strengthens Barceló Hotel Group’s focus on Southeast Asia and expands its Phuket portfolio with two distinct properties.

The resort operates under a management contract, supporting the group’s strategy of working with local owners to expand in key international markets. -TTN
