IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with long-standing partner Pacific Beachcomber to transform the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa into Regent Bora Bora, marking Regent Hotels & Resorts’ debut in French Polynesia.

The 84-villa resort, located on a private motu on the eastern edge of Bora Bora’s lagoon, closed on 1 June 2026 for extensive renovations and is scheduled to reopen as Regent Bora Bora in late 2027.

The exclusively overwater resort will feature direct lagoon access and views of Mount Otemanu and the Pacific Ocean. The transformation will introduce Regent’s modern luxury offering, combining personalised service, dining, design and experiences centred on Polynesian culture and the surrounding environment.

Rajit Sukumaran, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, East Asia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Bora Bora is one of the world’s most extraordinary luxury destinations, making it a natural home for Regent. Together with our long-standing partner Pacific Beachcomber, we have an exceptional opportunity to transform this remarkable resort while preserving the natural beauty, Polynesian character and sense of place that make it so special.”

Richard Bailey, Founder and Chairman, Pacific Beachcomber, said: “Our partnership with IHG spans more than two decades, and we are delighted to embark on this next chapter together with Regent.”

Sustainability will remain central to the property.

The resort was the first hotel globally to implement a seawater air-conditioning system, using naturally cold Pacific Ocean water to cool the property.

The system has reduced electricity consumption for air conditioning and refrigeration by around 90%.

The technology will continue operating following the transformation, retaining one of the resort’s key sustainability features.

Regent Bora Bora will join the brand’s growing portfolio of luxury properties in destinations including Hong Kong, Santa Monica, Phu Quoc, Cannes, Shanghai and Bali. -TTN
