The Abu Dhabi Edition - an impressive addition
October 2019 7694

I always judge the service of a hotel from the moment I pull up from the valet to the doorman, and these two surpassed my critique. At check in, a friendly face greeted me with a warm, welcoming smile and I was quickly checked in, a service you truly appreciate after a long day.

The Abu Dhabi Edition is a boutique, five-star product located on the Al Bateen Wharf, an up and coming area that is centrally located with easy access to the Abu Dhabi Corniche, The Royal Palace and Qasr Al Watan, and 20 to 35 minutes from Abu Dhabi’s attractions such as The Louvre and Yas Island.

The hotel has 198 guest rooms and suites as well as 57 exclusive residences. I stayed in a Marina View King room, which had great views of Al Bateen Marina with a large balcony, a nice place to sit in when the weather is conducive. The 49 sq m room was spacious with a working area, a chaise lounge chair and, of course, a large king bed that the Marriott brand is famous for. As I like a bath after a long day, so I also prefer hotels that offer both a bath and a shower, and I was not disappointed.

Other room options at the property are the Marina Rooms without balcony, Deluxe Rooms (same size as Marina Rooms) 110 sq m Loft Room or one of their suites, penthouses or their one to three bedroom apartments.

I was unable to sample the spa, but I did try out the gym, which although not large, offers all the equipment to satisfy any kind of workout and a fantastic view of the marina.

The hotel offers a good mix of food and beverage, while bearing the health-conscious traveller in mind too. I enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at The Library Bar, a quiet place to unwind before a meal or after work. This was followed by a lovely meal in the Oak Room, a traditional English oak panelled restaurant. This steakhouse has the cuts of meats in a frosted glass-fronted butchery that shows guests the quality of its meats and products. I had a delicious, perfectly cooked steak, but chicken and fish options are also on the menu. Do, however, suggest to your clients to save room for one of the desserts like sticky toffee pudding or crumble, which are truly British.

Market at The Edition, is a healthy lifestyle restaurant where guest will find fresh, organic ingredients. I could order my breakfast off a menu and did not have to eat from the buffet, which most hotels seem to include in the room package. Other outlets include Alba Terrace (Mediterranean), Annex (for tapas), or the Coffee House in the Lobby for a coffee and snack.

What impressed me most, however, was when I mentioned to the waiter at The Library Bar that I was allergic to certain food items, every staff was promptly informed about my allergy. I was assured by everyone that whatever I ordered did not contain any allergens. That, to my mind, is great service.
