Atlantis, The Palm has unveiled its transformed aquatic attraction, the Lost World Aquarium, seventeen years after its original debut. The aquarium has been reinvented as Dubai’s only marine-themed entertainment destination, combining captivating animal habitats with cutting-edge technology and immersive storytelling.
The extensive transformation is built around a combination of custom-curated technologies designed to extend the ocean environment beyond the tanks. This includes over 1,900 LED panels, 55 high-powered projectors, and 140 speakers that work in harmony to deliver synchronised light, sound and projection across 14 interactive themed rooms. This aims to immerse guests in a fantasy-based underwater world guided by a newly composed original score.
A key feature for travel agents to highlight is the Interactive Trident, an optional upgrade and take-home souvenir. This device unlocks more than 20 additional experiences throughout the aquarium, allowing guests to control multi-sensory effects, activate ancient artifacts, and trigger synchronised lighting and soundscapes.
This focus on innovation serves a larger mission: making education accessible. Every marine habitat now features interactive digital displays. Furthermore, redesigned behind-the-scenes tours allow marine experts to guide visitors beyond the viewing windows, demonstrating animal care and promoting ocean awareness. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the Lost World Aquarium emphasises its commitment to the gold standard in animal welfare.
The expansion also introduces 19 new marine habitats and 430 new marine animals across 35 new species, including the Striated Frogfish, Axolotl and Giant Pacific Octopus.
The Lost World Aquarium debuts a spectacular new live entertainment element with the mermaid show, ‘Return of the Trident,’ performed multiple times daily in the 10-metre-deep Ambassador Lagoon. The production is delivered by a dedicated mermaid division comprising five professional underwater performers from an international cast.
The aquarium forms part of the larger Aquaventure World, which includes the world’s largest waterpark. For clients staying at Atlantis, The Palm or Atlantis The Royal, entry to both the waterpark and the Lost World Aquarium is included as part of their stay. Standalone tickets are also available for external visitors.
