Langhe and Roero, an area in the Cuneo province located only 70 kilometres from Turin offers a gastronomic delight that is unparalleled in the world.
Though Langhe and Roero’s main draw has been food and grape beverage for years, culture, art, nature and outdoor activities are fast taking up second place. This diversification has allowed for an increase in international tourist arrivals from Scandinavia, Northern America, France and the Benelux. Tourism is now more distributed throughout the year with peaks in the outdoors sector during the summer.
People coming to the Langhe and Roero region know what to expect: beautiful landscapes, excellent dining and drinks, and great hospitality. Grapes like Barolo and Barbaresco are served with local dishes: countless starters, homemade pasta like tajarin and ravioli al "plin", fassone tartare, PDO cheeses, desserts made with "Tonda Gentile di Langa" IGP hazelnuts and, last but not least, the Alba White Truffle.
In October 2017, the Municipality of Alba was named Unesco Creative City for Gastronomy.
Small authentic villages, local products, events, castles and museums are the region's main attractions. Barolo and Barbaresco; Alba, Langhe's capital town, and Bra, the baroque home of Slow Food; charming Higher Langa, with its woods, hazelnut groves and a huge variety of cheeses, and Lower Langa, with its rolling vineyards.
The local interests include: visits to Barolo castle (hosting the WiMu museum), Grinzane Cavour castle (site of the regional grape store, the Worldwide White Truffle Auction and a Michelin starred restaurant) and several other sites; trekking, cycling; cooking courses for tourists like those offered in Roddi castle; the new Museum of Magic for adults and children in Cherasco.
Some national and international events are held in the area, among them: Alba International White Truffle Fair; Cheese, a Slow Food event in Bra; Alba Music Festival; Alba Jazz Festival; Monfoteinjazz in Monforte d'Alba; Collisioni Festival, a Literature and Music festival. December's event "The Magic Christmas Village" in Govone has provided tourists with an opportunity to extend their stay after the Truffle Fair, enjoying the region and its excellent wares during a charming season.
Vine trees can be seen almost everywhere in the region and give the whole area a special touch of warm colours in constant change with the passing of the seasons. In June 2014, the region was added to the Unesco World Heritage list.
