Desert Rock Resort has made history as the first property in Saudi Arabia to be awarded Three MICHELIN Keys, the highest honour in the MICHELIN Guide’s global hotel classification system.
The landmark accolade places the mountain retreat among an ultra-exclusive group of just 155 hotels worldwide holding Three Keys in 2026, and establishes it as one of only two properties across the entire GCC to achieve the distinction, alongside Dubai's Atlantis The Royal.
Adding to its sweep, Desert Rock was named the sole global winner of the 2026 MICHELIN Architecture & Design Award, chosen from a worldwide shortlist of five properties. Conceived by Oppenheim Architecture, the 64-key luxury resort is carved directly into the ancient granite massifs of the Hijaz Mountains near Umluj, built on a structural philosophy of integrating with the landscape rather than building over it.
The recognition also reinforces the momentum of Red Sea Global (RSG) Hospitality, which operates both Desert Rock and the archipelago retreat Shebara Resort.
Located on an offshore island within the Al Wajh Lagoon, Shebara successfully retained its Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 selection. Renowned for its futuristic, mirror-surfaced orb villas that appear like a string of pearls suspended above the reef, the 73-villa private island offers a contrasting marine counterpart to Desert Rock’s rugged interior topography.
