King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has completed a major terminal reorganisation aimed at optimising capacity and operations, said its operator Riyadh Airports Company.

The transition, carried out from February 16 to 25, redesignated Terminals 1 and 2 for international flights operated by national carriers, Terminals 3 and 4 for their domestic services, and Terminal 5 for international flights by foreign airlines.

On the reorganisation, Riyadh Airports Company CEO Ayman Aboabah said the move was executed under a comprehensive operational plan involving more than 650 field support teams, alongside free transport services including the Riyadh Metro and shuttle buses.

During the transition period, the airport handled more than 1.04 million passengers across 7,650 flights without disruption to operations, he stated.

Following this, the airport’s annual passenger capacity is expected to soar to 56 million by the year end from 42 million in 2025, thus registering a 33% growth.

Transit capacity is projected to reach 7.5 million passengers annually, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to position the kingdom as a global logistics hub, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
