South Al Batinah Governorate, Oman has demonstrated significant growth in its tourism infrastructure, with licensed tourism establishments reaching 274 by September 2025, comprising hotels, heritage lodges, and eco-friendly accommodations.
The region has also
seen expansion in its travel sector, with 148 registered travel agencies and
tour operators currently active, reported ONA.
The Directorate of
Heritage and Tourism has been instrumental in developing the governorate's
tourism potential through strategic preservation and promotion initiatives.
Comprehensive
restoration efforts have focused on maintaining historical structures, with 495
heritage sites now documented across the governorate.
Current restoration
projects include the prominent A’Rustaq Fort and Al Kasfah Tower, while
promotional campaigns have enhanced the governorate's visibility alongside
cultural forums and heritage events.
Visitor statistics
reflect growing interest in the governorate's historical attractions, with
forts and castles attracting 48,575 visitors by June 2025.
The Wilayat of
A’Rustaq leads in heritage assets with 250 documented sites (50.5% of the
governorate's total), followed by the Wilayat of Nakhal (93 sites), the Wilayat
of Al Awabi (63 sites), and Wilayat of Wadi Al Maawil (49 sites).
Significant
archaeological sites include the Al Taykhah location in A’Rustaq, dating to the
Umm an-Nar civilization, alongside other historically important areas across
multiple wilayats.
Investment patterns
show concentrated development in tourism infrastructure, particularly in the
Wilayat of Barka, which hosts 197 establishments (72% of the governorate's
total).
The Wilayat of Al
Mussanah follows with 41 establishments, while the Wilayat of A’Rustaq
maintains 30 tourism facilities.
The remaining wilayats collectively account for 2% of tourism establishments, indicating potential areas for future development in the growing tourism sector.
