The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has achieved a new milestone, winning the tourist-friendly long-distance category award at the inaugural International Union of Railways (UIC) TopRail Tourist-Friendly Awards.

The ceremony was held at the union's headquarters in Paris, France, with broad participation from major railway companies worldwide, reported SPA.

This inaugural global award confirms SAR's leadership in providing innovative and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.

The company was recognised for its excellence in operating night trains, which offer an integrated travel experience combining mobility, comfort, and sustainability.
SAR's night trains provide a comprehensive tourism experience with high-quality services.

They help reduce carbon emissions by millions of kilograms of carbon dioxide annually and lessen reliance on cars for long-distance travel, promoting the concept of sustainable travel.

Features include private sleeping compartments offering a high degree of privacy and luxury, inclusive facilities for people with disabilities, and a restaurant car.

The service also includes a car shipping service that allows passengers to continue their journey seamlessly upon arrival, along with a dedicated luggage car.
By connecting tourist, cultural, and heritage destinations, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kingdom, these rail trips boost sustainable tourism.

This international achievement strengthens SAR's global presence.

It supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 objectives to consolidate the Kingdom's position as a global logistics centre and a supporter of sustainable tourism.
