New hospitality player Six & Six Private Islands has announced a strategic vision to redefine the Maldivian luxury landscape, pledging to launch six individually designed private island resorts over the next six years.
“SIX & SIX is about giving guests the most meaningful luxuries: time, space, and the freedom to just be,” says Laith Pharaon, co-founder and CEO. “We’re not interested in replicating what already exists. This is about reimagining what luxury in the Maldives can feel like - intuitive, intentional and personal.”
Founded in 2024 by the seasoned hotelier and investor, the brand’s debut marks a shift toward a lifestyle-led hospitality philosophy centred on presence, authenticity and meaningful connection. The ambitious roadmap begins in 2026 with the opening of two distinct properties in the South Malé Atoll: Rah Gili Maldives and Don Maaga Maldives.
Central to the brand’s identity is the Dhivehi concept of Rayyithun, or "People of the Islands." This philosophy dictates that the local community, from fishermen and builders to traditional drummers, serves as the architect of the guest experience.
This culture is most visible in the Edhurun programme, which replaces the traditional butler with a mentor figure. Named after the Dhivehi word for mentor, the Edhurun act as intuitive storytellers and guardians of island knowledge, moving beyond standard service to provide a narrative-driven guest journey.
The brand's first two properties are strategically located just a short speedboat ride from Velana International Airport, offering ease of access alongside secluded luxury.
RAH GILI MALDIVES
Positioned adjacent to a protected dolphin sanctuary, this resort will feature 74 villas, including 37 overwater units when it opens this month. The design promises a blend of bold aesthetics and whimsical details, serving as the primary expression of the story-led Rayyithun philosophy.
DON MAAGA MALDIVES
Positioned as the ultra-luxury flagship, this resort, opening later this year, will introduce signature Terra∞ beach villas and Aethr∞ overwater villas, with some units exceeding 1,500 sqm. The property includes high-end features such as semi-precious inlays and both saltwater and freshwater pools. It will also house Hirigaa, an invitation-only island for exclusive full-island takeovers.
Extending the brand beyond short-term stays, the company is also launching Six & Six Private Residences. Available across all future islands, these units allow individuals and families to purchase a permanent stake in the island's rhythm, acting as stewards rather than guests.
From an operational standpoint, Director of Operations Marc Gussing emphasised that while each island will maintain a distinct energy, they are united by a commitment to intentionality. This includes a robust ESG framework; the brand is pursuing EarthCheck certification for all properties. Sustainability measures include solar power integration, zero single-use plastics, in-house desalination, and regenerative marine conservation programmes.
