New park opens in Oman's Jabal Akhdar to boost tourism
The Jabal Akhdar Park, located in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman, is set to open today (August 18) as part of a series of development projects aimed at enhancing the area's tourism and entertainment infrastructure.

The Jabal Akhdar Park in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar, located in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman, will open today (August 18), marking an enhancement to the area's tourism and entertainment infrastructure.
This park is part of a series of development projects aimed at boosting Jabal Akhdar's status as a key tourist destination both nationally and regionally.
Situated in the Seih Qatna area, the park project is part of ongoing efforts to improve public spaces and enhance the quality of life, reported Times of Oman.
It is anticipated to become a major attraction for both visitors and residents throughout the year, thanks to its comprehensive facilities designed to meet the needs of various age groups.
The project aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to convert the governorate's natural and cultural resources into sustainable development opportunities with tangible economic and social benefits.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mansour Al Ghafili, the Wali of Jabal Akhdar, emphasised that the park is a vital addition to the tourism landscape of the governorate.
He noted that the project, which costs over OMR 1.1 million and spans 20,000 square meters, features integrated recreational and service facilities, including a 1,000-square-meter children's play area, sports paths, and investment spaces that house a café, a shop, and an area for electric games, along with prayer rooms and restrooms for men and women.
Additionally, the park includes an open multi-use theater and green spaces covering 5,000 square meters, enhanced by the planting of 150 trees and 400 shrubs, contributing to the site's aesthetic appeal and establishing it as a comprehensive entertainment destination for family activities and community events.
He highlighted that the project showcases the Wilayat's commitment, in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, to develop facilities that adhere to sustainability standards, support small and medium enterprises, generate job opportunities, and stimulate commercial activities.
These initiatives, in coordination with the Office of the Governor, are part of a broader development strategy that emphasises innovation, sustainability, and the promotion of Omani identity.
The next phase will introduce further initiatives focusing on investment in ecotourism, smart agriculture, and community services, ensuring balanced and comprehensive development.
Mohammed Al Wardi, Director of the Projects Department at Al Dakhiliyah Municipality, explained that the park project extends the governorate's vision to develop public facilities and enhance the urban environment.
He noted that the celebration square in Seih Qatna, inaugurated last July, serves as a model for cultural and tourism infrastructure in the governorate.
He added that the new projects underway form part of an integrated plan to position the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar as a sustainable tourism hub, harmonising the preservation of the natural environment with the development of public facilities and enhancing the visitor experience through comprehensive services, thereby solidifying the governorate's role on the tourism and investment map of the Sultanate of Oman.
