Turisme de Barcelona has launched the Barcelona Convention Bureau Legacy Programme to enhance the long-term value generated by events and congresses held in the city.
This initiative focuses on creating lasting positive impacts through collaborations between local stakeholders and congress associations, aiming to benefit Barcelona's community, economy, and research sectors.
Christoph Tessmar, BCB’s director, emphasised the goal of achieving lasting effects beyond the events themselves by fostering knowledge sharing and professional connections.
A new department within BCB will facilitate this, currently working on four major congresses, including the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in April.
The Legacy Programme categorises projects into five impact areas: economic diversification, community, knowledge-sharing, environmental, and sectoral.
BCB offers three collaboration types for associations: developing a legacy project from scratch, supporting existing projects, and connecting with local initiatives.
A Legacy Committee will oversee each project, starting a year prior to the event and evaluating its impact post-implementation.
Turisme de Barcelona’s president, Jordi Clos, highlighted the importance of attracting impactful congresses that contribute to social, educational, and economic growth.
Upcoming congresses, like the World Stroke Congress in October, aim to leave significant legacies, including community awareness campaigns.
Barcelona, hosting around 1,500 meetings annually, seeks to establish a stable legacy programme to maximise the benefits of its MICE activities. -TradeArabia News Service
