Rotana makes Doha debut

ROTANA has opened its first hotel in Qatar and the new Oryx promises some unusual innovations for the comfort of its business-traveller clientele.

For example general manager Kevork Deldelian is planning a scheme where regular visitors can leave the necessities for a short trip permanently at the hotel and their clothing can be cleaned and ready for use in their room when they arrive.

He said: “This is an idea that has come from the team here. We want to make life as easy as possible for our guests. It’s a bit like the frequent flier idea, when business travellers know they are coming they can just get in touch and everything is here for them when they arrive with instant check in, because we will already have their details, and their luggage already in their rooms.”

He is also looking at the possibility of making mobile phones available in the rooms with a local sim card preprogrammed with numbers of services such as car hire, banks and anything else the guest may choose as well as business contact numbers should they wish.

Guests making use of this service would also be issued with business cards featuring both their company details and the hotel address for use during their stay.

The 400-room Oryx Rotana is owned by Qatar Airways and located next to Doha International Airport and Deldelian said its position will be a main differentiator in attracting the business market.

But he added: “We are certainly very much more than simply an airport hotel, for example we have unique entertainment options and the ability to cater for large-scale events. We have a massive amount of meeting space and the room capacity to back it up.”

Graded as a four-star but with five-star accommodation, Oryx Rotana features the latest high-tech facilities including nine fully-equipped meeting rooms with the most up-to-date audio-visual equipment, two ballrooms and a dedicated professional events team.

The property also boasts five signature restaurants to suit every guest’s palate and dining need: the Sky Lounge – a lobby bistro offering a tempting array of mouthwatering delicacies – Choices – which has a daily international buffet and an á-la-carte menu selection – The Cellar – where guests will find one of the finest selections of beverages in the city along with  Mediterranean tapas – the Jazz Club – an exclusive and atmospheric jazz club with live entertainment – and Splash – the casual dining experience by the poolside.

It provides business travelers with the ultimate services in getting the job done efficiently, while giving them the chance to wind down and relax at any of the numerous leisure facilities which include a fully-fledged fitness centre, Jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas, swimming pool, and massage rooms.

“We are delighted to open such a magnificent property in the heart of what the world now considers a booming business city,” says Deldelian. “Oryx Rotana is destined to become one of the city’s most desirable addresses for discerning travellers by providing them with a complete experience be it for business, leisure or both. At Oryx Rotana, we believe that time is of the essence and have incorporated this belief into our daily work practices.”
