PROJECT DETAILS

Qatar plans to convert a vast flour mill and its grain silos into spaces for art and to house Qatar Museums Authority (QMA’s) varied and growing collections. The waterfront site is across Doha Bay from the I.M. Pei-designed Museum of Islamic Art and close to Jean Nouvel's National Museum of Qatar, which is under construction.

QMA launched an international competition to acquire a suitable architect to convert the industrial buildings into what it calls the Art Mill Museum. Organized by Malcolm Reading Consultants, the competition winner is due to be announced in spring 2016. Work could start in 2017 while the detailed brief and budget for the project are due to be announced later this year.

The project consists of a museum with a 92,900 sqm built up area, over a 83,500 sqm land including a gallery and exhibition space, an education and conference space, an events space, a conservation and storage space, a visitors amenities space, an underground parking and other related facilities.
