During my recent trip to attend the Qatar Travel Mart in Doha, I had the opportunity of staying at the Mondrian Doha.
Each Mondrian Hotel embodies the essence of its locale, and the Mondrian Doha is no exception. The building itself is a striking reflection of the falcon, a revered hunting bird in the Middle East. The interiors of the hotel are the first one designed by the world-renowned Dutch designer and art director, Marcel Wanders, in the Middle East. Wanders drew inspiration for the design from the captivating tales of One Thousand and One Nights.
The standard room, spanning over 48 sq m, stands as one of the largest in the city. Its floor-to-ceiling windows offer a sweeping view, complemented by smart media controls allowing guests to manage lighting, AC, and even access a live feed of the night club, a feature I discovered late.
Each room showcases wallpaper artwork narrating the journey of a Dutch traveller through the Middle East, while the carpet design evokes the undulating desert dunes.
As a bathtub enthusiast, I was delighted by the huge oval bath adorned beneath a Swarovski chandelier. The presence of a spacious rain shower and sustainable, naturally scented Ciel amenities further heightened the experience.
The hotel offers various room categories catering to diverse preferences. The Deluxe Loft Suite, spanning 152 sq m, boasts a kitchenette and Wanders’ sculptures. The Deluxe Terrace Suite covers 229 sq m and, as its name suggests, offers an exquisite view of Doha from its terrace. The Opal Bridal Suite, equipped with a living room, steam, and sauna facilities, is conveniently located on the same floor as ESPA, where the bride can receive a pampering experience; and she can then ride in a golden elevator to the ballroom.
On the 23rd and 24th floors, guests can experience luxury at its peak with the Penthouse and Apartment. The 658 sq m Apartment, adorned in opulent red velvet, features a vast sitting area and a snooker table. Meanwhile, the Penthouse, spanning over 810 sq m, houses an entertainment room complete with a grand piano alongside the snooker table. Both offer three bedrooms, a dining hall, living room, Wander’s signature staircase, and an elevator.
The hotel features separate ESPA facilities for both genders, each uniquely designed— the Female ESPA resembling a secret garden, and the Male ESPA inspired by an urban souk, both offering traditional and tailored treatments.
Mondrian’s culinary offerings are diverse, ranging from the all-day dining at Mondrian Bistro, where I enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet had so much to choose from – you weren’t sure where to start. I had a quick dinner at the New York style Taver Hudson Tavern too.
I also had the privilege of exploring Morimoto Doha, Chef Masaharu Marimoto’s first restaurant in the Middle East, known for its fusion of Western and Japanese cuisines. Additionally, the lobby lounge Ellamia, also known as “the Frozen Forest,” offers a serene space with Wanders’ iconic piece, The Tree of Life. Here you can have coffee with colleagues, friends or family with a piece of cake or a light snack. There are also Walima Qatari restaurant, 12 Chairs, Caviar Bar with Black Orchard and Rise where you can enjoy a cocktail and snacks with live DJ’s.
I try and keep fit while travelling and with all the delightful culinary experiences offered at Mondrian, I did utilise the Fitness Centre featuring state-of-the-art Technogym equipment to complete my usual routine. There is also a trainer available if you need that extra push.
For the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) market, Mondrian offers four meeting rooms accommodating 20 to 50 individuals each, expandable to cater to 200 collectively. The Moonstone Ballroom, one of the city’s largest, spans 2,000 sq m with 12-m-high ceilings, advanced AV equipment, and a capacity of up to 1,500 attendees.
Conveniently located only 40 minutes from Hamad International Airport and in the heart of West Bay and for those who love to shop, next to Lagoona Mall, the property is recommended for leisure, business or MICE clients and especially families as children and adults alike will be amazed at the design, service and comfort.
