The inaugural WTM Spotlight Riyadh opened in in the Saudi capital on Monday with the participation of senior tourism leaders and global travel buyers as Saudi Arabia showcased its growing portfolio of destinations, experiences and tourism opportunities.
On behalf of Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism, Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) CEO Ageel AlShaibani opened the event.The destination-focused event has brought together international travel buyers and Saudi tourism businesses to build commercial relationships, explore new products and programmes, and strengthen the travel trade’s ability to bring more of Saudi to market.Through ‘Saudi, Welcome to Arabia’ branding, STA is showcasing Saudi Arabia’s expanding tourism offering, spanning cultural and heritage attractions, coastal destinations, luxury hospitality, nature, entertainment and emerging destinations.AlShaibani said: "I’m delighted to begin my tenure as the new CEO of the Saudi Tourism as Saudi hosts the inaugural WTM Spotlight Riyadh, an important time to bring our global partners closer to the momentum here, and to work together to convert growing demand into lasting opportunity. “Saudi's tourism sector continues to demonstrate resilience and strength, even amid an unpredictable first half of 2026. The opening day brought together tourism businesses, international travel buyers and industry stakeholders to explore evolving traveller demand, destination development and opportunities to develop and sell new travel products across the Kingdom.WTM Spotlight Riyadh continues till September 10, with STA participating in industry meetings and trade engagement throughout the event.STA’s participation forms part of its continued efforts to strengthen relationships with the global travel trade, expand the reach of Saudi destinations and enable tourism partners to convert growing demand into visitation across the Kingdom. -TradeArabia News Service
