SAL Logistics Services, Saudi Arabia’s national leader in cargo handling, logistics and supply chain management, has received the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Security Management System (SeMS) Level 1 certification.

The company is the first in Saudi Arabia and the second in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to receive the certification, which recognises the effectiveness of its security management framework across cargo handling and ground operations.

The certification reflects SAL’s focus on internationally recognised security standards and a proactive approach based on risk management.

The initiative also supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

SAL said the achievement was supported by the expertise and commitment of its operations and security teams.

The company formally received the certification during a ceremony at IATA headquarters in Geneva.

The ceremony was part of a two-day programme that included certification review sessions and meetings with IATA executives and industry specialists.

Discussions covered the continuous improvement of security management systems, ground-handling practices and developments across the Middle East and Europe.

The programme also addressed trends in the Middle East and Africa air cargo markets, as well as IATA solutions and training programmes for cargo and ground-handling operations.

The certification marks a step in SAL’s efforts to strengthen security practices across its operations while supporting the development of Saudi Arabia’s logistics and aviation sectors.

Omar Hariri, Chief Executive Officer of SAL, said: "Security is the foundation of trusted cargo operations. Achieving the IATA Security Management System certification as the first company in Saudi Arabia reflects the advancement of SAL's security practices. It is a testament to the dedication of our teams. It reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class standards that safeguard our customers while enhancing operational excellence across Saudi Arabia's aviation and logistics sectors.” -TradeArabia News Service
