PROJECT DETAILS

Dubai-based Nakheel is constructing a hospitality and entertainment hub called Deira Island. The project is estimated to have approximately 15.3 sq km of mixed-use development area.

The master plan on the scheme was carried out by Nakheel Properties with the help of Teo A Khing design consultants (TAK). Local firm AE7 is carrying out the $12.8 million infrastructure designs for the Night Souq and Board Walk, while RSP Architects and Ted Jacob Engineering Group are involved in the $10.9 million design and MEP works on the Island Mall respectively.

Meanwhile, Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is also involved in helping with the road routes. Moreover, Nakheel has announced a partnership with Spain RIU Hotels & Resorts to comply with the hospitality level of Dubai to build 750 hotel rooms.

TIMELINE

May 2015 - Nakheel appointed Spain RIU Hotels and Resorts to operate and build hotels and resorts in the island. They have also revealed that the construction contract for building the 5,000 unit night souq will be awarded this month.

April 2015 - Design works are still being carried out on the mall.

March 2015 - The award for the construction works of the Night Souq and Board Walk is most likely to be awarded in the second quarter of 2015.

March 2015 - Mall designs are in the final stages.

January 2015 - Tenders for the construction work of the mall has been released.

November 2014 - Tenders for the construction works on the Night souq and Broad Walk has been issued.

July 2014 - RSP and Ted Jacob Engineering group have commenced design works.

June 2014 - RSP Architects and Ted Jacob Engineering Group have been awarded the design and MEP works on the Island Mall respectively.

May 2014 - Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is helping with the road routes on the island.

April 2014 - Dubai based AE7 has been awarded the design contract as well as the supervision services contract.

November 2013 - Nakheel started working on the master plan. Subsequently, they have appointed Teo A Khing Design Consultants (TAK) to carry out design works on the scheme.

October 2013 - Project Deira Island was announced by Nakheel Properties.
