GOLF in Sharjah has been given the thumb’s up by the Malaysian Tourism Board, which recently made a deal with Orient Travel to support the monthly medal tournaments at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.
Orient Travel and Tourism Agency, one of the largest travel agencies in the UAE, which has been title sponsor of the event for 12 months, will be joined by the tourism board’s ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ brand.
At the announcement Tuan Razali Tuan Omar, director of Tourism Malaysia, said, “We are delighted to join hands with Orient Travel and Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club to promote the unique travelling experience of Malaysia.”
Martin Duff, SGSC director of Golf said, “It is great to have a global brand such as Malaysia Truly Asia supporting our events.”
Opened in November 2005 under the auspices of Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, the club offers a nine hole, fully floodlit golf course, with putting green and short game areas all designed and maintained to internationally acclaimed standards.
A number of tournaments at the club, including the Orient Travel sponsored monthly medals, have since become very popular with local golfers. The Malaysia Truly Asia support will extend for a six month period.
The tourism board’s aim is to make its tourism industry a major contributor to the socio-economic development of the nation, with a mission to market Malaysia as a destination of excellence in the middle East region.
Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club also provides first class facilities for rifle shooting and paintball games, plus a gymnasium, hair salon, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts.
