Maldives has become a popular spa destination for the ME traveller

The Maldives is a relatively new leisure destination for travellers from the Gulf region, but there is a growing awareness of its presence as a prime holiday, spa and wedding destination thanks to the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board, which came to Abu Dhabi recently to feature its island resorts at the Brides Show.

Exhibiting for the first time at a consumer exhibition in the Gulf region, the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board showcased many resorts, already popular with honeymooners from all over the world, to both GCC nationals and expatriate residents living in the region.
At the show Mohammed Adam, deputy director, Maldives Tourism Promotion Board said, “We understand that UAE nationals pay great attention to planning their wedding and honeymoon. We offer one of the most romantic destinations in the world.”
The islands are accessible from the UAE with daily flights from Emirates, Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan Airlines, and twice weekly flights from Jazeera Airways.
A resort which was named one of the world’s hottest new resorts worldwide by Conde Nast Traveler in the 2007 was Naladhu – Maldivian for “beautiful island” – which sits on a palm covered atoll surrounded by a coral lagoon. It offers several packages, including a five day spa journey valid until December 19, 2008.
Accommodation is at Naladhu Ocean House or Beach House with a private plunge pool and expansive sun deck. The package includes a daily spa treatment which starts off with a good soaking in an aromatic floral bath overlooking the sea, daily breakfast served by a house master, daily choice of jet lag massage, aromatherapy, royal Thai massage and milk baths.
Each day guests are taken to a new idyllic location to enjoy the therapy of their choice. Daily rates until April 30 start at $1660; from May 1 to July 14 at $1480; from July 15 to August 31 at $1740; from September 1 to September 30 at $1480; from October 1 to December 19 at $1680.
Rates are subject to a 10 per cent service charge and $8 bed tax per person per day. Transfers to and from the airport are also included.
