TTN caught up with Lex Delles, Minister for Tourism and Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, who gave us insights into why the world’s only remaining Grand Duchy is also a great place to visit.

“Luxembourg is a crossroad for people coming from all over the world to discover our country. It is not only a great place to work, there's also a perfect destination to take break. Situated in the heart of Europe, Luxembourg is the world's only remaining Grand Duchy, and is one of the smallest countries in the world. Luxembourg has connections to over 85 European destinations.

Luxembourg is a country where diversity is not a result of policy but the policy itself. In fact, the treaty of Schengen was signed on a boat in the Luxembourgish village of Schengen, which is point where Luxembourg, Germany and France come together. The country now has 170 nationalities living together in harmony.

“Luxembourg is the first country in the world to offer nationwide free public transport. Travel has never been easier: just hop into a bus, train or tramway, and explore the different regions of our country. You can easily combine a visit to one of our nature parks in the northern region of Luxembourg with a stop at the many sights in the southern region all in one day.

“Luxembourg certainly ticks all the boxes for a great holiday destination, beautiful nature, fun activities, excellent gastronomy fascinating culture and history. Outdoor activities such as hiking, and biking, have been successfully developed. With its green landscapes, forest and wine yards, as well as the capital listed as Unesco World Heritage Site, Luxembourg offers an unforgettable journey.”

There are some very luxurious hospitality properties in Luxembourg including some converted medieval palaces where tourists can enjoy three-four nights. For instance, the 28-key Place d’Armes Hotel is a Relais & Chateau property located within the 1,000-year old city. Chateau d'Urspelt Resort & Spa is housed in a majestic castle that is classified as a National Monument. Flag carrier airline of Luxembourg, Luxair now connects Dubai and Luxembourg City direct with a twice-weekly connection.

From an economic point of view, Luxembourg is among the countries that have undertaken the greatest transformation over the past decades. Luxembourg is synonymous with a strong economy, and internationally known as one of the most important financial hubs in the world in the very heart of united Europe. The country's economy is driven by its key innovative economic sectors such as automotive, ICT, space, green tech and life sciences.

“This favourable ecosystem for innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and knowledge transfer is the ideal environment to organise international conferences and congresses. Meetings international conferences and conventions in this field are boosting the image and visibility of the monarchy at the international level. The Grand Duchy is expanding the digitalization aspect of its tourism to position itself as a hub for hybrid events, meaning face to face events that are expanded and enriched by technology,” says the minister.
