A One Bedroom Sea View Tent in Mysk Kingfisher Retreat

Mysk Kingfisher Retreat is the perfect break away from it all

Mysk Kingfisher Retreat is the perfect antidote for the trapped traveller with its graciously social distanced, spacious luxury tents, facing and leading to the blue and inviting Arabian Sea. Right from the moment you arrive at the retreat to the time you leave, you feel an additional sense of safety and security as the staff practice stringent hygiene measures. This makes the retreat a must visit for all seeking a staycation in the UAE.

If you’re lucky, you get to arrive at the property by boat across the backwaters as they swell and soften with the tides, but since there was some construction ongoing in Kalba at the moment of our arrival, we could not use the boat, so all the guests arrived at the resort by golf cart instead.

Mysk Kingfisher Retreat is a cosy property with all the charm of an exotic luxury tented safari lodge, but right at your doorstep in Sharjah’s east coast of Kalba.

Offering just 20 tents, within an environmentally protected ecological reserve, the property consists of 13 One Bedroom Sea View Tents (139 sq m including outside deck and plunge pool), similarly designed 2 One Bedroom Tents with Mountain View and 5 Three Bedroom Tent with Sea View (344 sq m including outside deck and plunge pool).

The onsite restaurant, with a view of an infinity pool and lazy cabanas dotting the breezy beachfront during the day, and warm bonfires with light classical music during the evenings, offers a delightful though select menu. Feel free to request the team for anything you’d like to eat, they are quite accommodating and aim to please. The spa, separate tents for men and women, was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but when open, offers relaxing and worthwhile treatments.

Boasting a busy schedule of activities within its eco-protected boundaries for kids and adults alike, the property lets you be as busy or as laidback as you’d like to be. The absence of a kids’ club is more than amply made up for by the activities, which include and are not limited to kite-flying on the beach, a treasure hunt, beach clean-up, meeting the turtles, guided nature walk, guided cycle tour, birdwatching, watching crabs go home, sunset yoga and more.

Adults are also welcome to join in these activities or enjoy some delightful culinary experiences such as beach cabana dinner, barbeque at your own tent or picnic on the beach.

With the limited number of tents, guests can be sure that none of these activities get overcrowded but if you’d like to be by yourself, even a simple walk on the calm beach yields a collection of beautiful, unharmed shells and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a kingfisher.

The property is owned by Shurooq, which launched the Sharjah Collection, a boutique hotel concept, as part of its ongoing strategy to promote the emirate as one of the region’s leading cultural tourist spots.

"Shurooq believes in accepting challenges and transforming areas, whether it is here in the Heart of Sharjah or on the East Coast, in Kalba, where you have mountains, woodlands, mangroves, wetlands and the ocean coming together to make a unique and biodiverse neighbourhood," His Excellency Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, Executive Chairman of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), said in a recent interview with our sister publication Arabian Knight. "The ‘Sharjah Collection’ brand’s Mysk Kingfisher Retreat is the jewel of this project. This eco-retreat opens out to the Al Qurm Nature Reserve, famous for its rich biodiverse ecosystem of mangrove forests and rare species of birds, turtles, fish and deer."

Mysk Kingfisher Retreat, Sharjah Collection by Mysk is managed by Shaza, which scooped seven awards at the recently concluded World Travel Awards 2020, two of which were won by Mysk Kingfisher Retreat as the Middle East's Leading Retreat 2020 and also United Arab Emirates' Leading Retreat 2020. The property also won at the World Luxury Hotel Awards as the ‘2020 Luxury Beach Retreat in the Middle East’.

It’s time you put these awards to the test too.
