Fairmont looks beyond the usual safari

dusitD2 Nairobi begins work
DUSIT International has announced it will reopen the dusitD2 Nairobi hotel at the heart of the 14 Riverside complex, located in Nairobi’s exclusive Westlands neighbourhood. The 14 Riverside complex is a major commercial hub, housing numerous restaurants, shops, international offices and the dusitD2 hotel. The complex was targeted in an act of terror on January 15, which claimed the lives of 21 innocent people, including four full-time employees and two contract security staff of the hotel. No guests were harmed in the attack.
Demonstrating the resilience of the local community, the 14 Riverside complex has already sprung back into action with tenants and business owners returning to help to beautify the area.
dusitD2 Nairobi has been temporarily closed since the incident.
Hyatt Regency Algiers Airport opens
OPERATED under a management agreement with Société d'Investissement Hôtelière EPE SPA, the hotel adds to Hyatt’s growing brand presence across Africa, joining Hyatt’s existing seven properties in Africa.
Located at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, Algeria, the 320-room hotel is in close proximity to the newest terminal, and is the only hotel linked to the terminal at the moment.
Included within the hotel’s portfolio of amenities are dedicated airline lounges, a Regency Club lounge, a swimming pool and a 2,200-sq-m lobby. The hotel is home to three modern dining venues and offers about 949 sq m of flexible meeting space.
RwandAir now connects to Guangzhou
RWANDAIR, the flag carrier of the Republic of Rwanda, will commence flights to Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong and the third largest city in China, from June 18.
The airline will fly to Guangzhou three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Guangzhou will be tagged to the existing Mumbai route and will be operated by an Airbus A330 with triple class cabin and wi-fi onboard, in-flight entertainment and comfortable seats with more legroom.
Yvonne Manzi Makolo, the CEO of RwandAir, says: “With the increasing volume of trade between African countries and China, the need to meet the high demand of businessmen and traders travelling between Africa and Guangzhou is strongly felt. This new route will open new business opportunities and also increase our passenger and cargo traffic.”
Guangzhou is a major shopping destination for merchants and features popular tourist attractions such as the iconic Canton Tower and Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort, which offers an amusement park, international circus, water park, safari park, a bird park and a hotel.
