Thicket Priory, a Grade II-listed Victorian private home is the perfect location for an intimate wedding

Shrouded in privacy for decades, Grade II-listed Victorian masterpiece Thicket Priory has now been restored to create one of the UK’s finest private houses for hire.

Dating back to the 1840s and built by Edward Blore, most notable for his work on Buckingham Palace, Thicket Priory was until recently lived in by nuns and sealed off from the outside world. Today this sanctuary of tranquillity boasts 35 en-suite bedrooms, internal chapel, a magnificent ballroom and 18 acres of grounds. There’s even a helipad.

Meanwhile, a myriad of mysterious tunnels and doors will make it feel even more like a magical secret just waiting to be discovered. And yet Thicket Priory is only 15 minutes from historic York and just two hours from central London.

Romantic and ethereal, this exceptional country house makes the prefect setting for a unique wedding. Bespoke hire includes exclusive use of the grounds and house, with the latter able to sleep up to 72 guests.

Located throughout the house, all bedrooms have their own individual quirks and are named after those who once lived at or are connected to Thicket Priory. If you really want to let your hair down, the Rapunzel room in the clock tower, and boasting views over the courtyard, trees and fields, is specially for you.

Thicket Priory is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and partnerships both inside the house and within the extensive grounds.

Inside, ceremonies can take place in the exquisite private chapel, which can seat up to 120 guests, or a variety of other sumptuously appointed ceremony rooms. At the building’s heart lies the awe-inspiring Ballroom where up to 250 people can enjoy a seated banquet under dazzling chandeliers.

The estate is also blessed with its very own spring and guests can enjoy this crystal-clear water.
