Six-week entertainment festival to run across emirate

QATAR Tourism Authority (QTA) has announced plans to hold Doha Park, the biggest entertainment event in Qatar, lasting six weeks and encompassing a range of activities, in collaboration with the Economic Group.

The festival will occupy 30,000 sq m at the new event area, near the Doha Exhibition Centre, and will run from October 6 to November 17 ending with Eid Al-Adha celebrations.

The authority’s head of local exhibitions, Lahdan Al Mohannadi, said the aim of the festival is to provide entertaining activities to both nationals and expatriates, to encourage tourists from both inside and outside the country.

The festival will feature more than 100 events and attractions, including an amusement park, an international circus, theatrical plays, concerts, a 3D cinema, performances by folklore bands depicting the heritage of Qatar and other Arabic countries, appearances by famous cartoon personalities, a play area for under 10s, entertainment programmes, a live theatre for children and various fun athletic activities to suit the whole family.

There will be a separate area for shopping with various different stores, a kids’ play area, bumper cars and rocket games areas, a video games area and a theatre.

A special circus area will also be set up to welcome the European, Russian, Egyptian and Chinese circuses which are expected to attract families from across the region.

And throughout the event there will be competitions and draws offering valuable prizes.

Entry to activity areas is free though there will be a nominal charge for electronic games at the amusement park.

The event will also host the country’s first impressionist exhibition featuring more than 20 works of art, inspired by Eid Al Adha and reflecting different aspects of the Qatari identity.
