EXPERIENCE the principles and philosophy of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi of India by travelling with Dr Arun Gandhi and Tushar Gandhi, grandsons of the late great leader.

On December 1 GoPhilanthropic – a New York based philanthropic travel company – offers a trip beginning in Mumbai, stopping at various humanitarian programmes as well as significant historical Gandhian sites including his former residence.

The Gandhi grandsons will guide the group to Kolhapur where they have started a project aimed at protecting and educating children that have been subject to exploitation.

GoPhilanthropic’s group of between 10 to 15 people will visit and contribute to the programme, meet the children and learn first hand how Gandhian philosophy continues to inspire grassroots movements in rural India. The group will be joined by filmmakers from MAI Entertainment (Canada) who are in the process of developing a documentary In The Footsteps of Gandhi, aimed at answering the question: "What would Gandhi do if he were alive today?"

Each member of the travelling group commits to donating $1,000 for a collective goal of about $15,000 which is to be personally delivered, in the form of material goods and educational tools, to some of India’s poorest regions.

"This trip is a wonderful way to see how Gandhian philosophy is alive and well today...and lives on through his grandchildren. The more people we get to come on the trip, the more money we will raise for a school that will support children who are victims of child labour and sexual exploitation," said Lydia Dean, president and founder GoPhilanthropic.

Arun Gandhi was born in 1934 in Durban, South Africa, and is the fifth grandson of India’s legendary leader.
