QATAR’S newest five-star hotel, the Grand Regency, has been accepted as a member of Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), just two months after its official opening, on December 14 last year.
According to general mnager, Ayman Lotfy, the LHW is very selective about new membership, which is based on a rigorous 1,500 point inspection.
The Grand Regency scored a commendable 85 per cent, he added. “The Leading Hotels brand is internationally recognized as the definitive mark of excellence in hospitality. Membership conveys to knowing audiences that your hotel provides the highest levels of luxury, service and value.”
The Grand Regency was fully booked during the recent West Asian Games, when it hosted athletes and administrators from several participating teams as its first guests.
Following the Games, the property was opened to the general public. To mark the occasion, a reception and dinner was held for members of the media. The hotel has 192 rooms, 21 suites, five F&B outlets, a business centre, suite of meetings rooms and a gymnasium. It will also have Qatar’s first ‘Fat Burning’ studio for those who want to lose weight.
Lotfy says another first for Doha is the hotel’s Moroccan restaurant.
The Grand Regency, he continued, will be concentrating on offering first class service. “We aim to make sure guests have the high level of service they expect, in an atmosphere where they feel their culture is respected and understood.” Since its official opening, it has enjoyed 80 per cent occupancy
Phase II of the hotel will add a 1,000-seat multipurpose hall, an additional 100 rooms and suites, leisure facilities, and a spa. Grand Regency is owned and managed by the Regency Group, which is establishing its own chain. Its next venture, however, is a property to be managed by Movenpick and that will be followed by twin towers of serviced apartments; the managers have yet to be announced.
