Bahrain adds hotels, new connections

Bahrain has seen three hotel signings, expanded international connectivity by land and air, and added more countries to its ‘red list’, all in the space of one month.

According to Colliers the market is still expected to achieve a year-on-year improvement of 53 per cent in 2021.

Hilton announced plans to bring its DoubleTree by Hilton brand to the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2022, hot on the heels of opening the 192-key Hilton Garden Inn Bahrain Bay. Minor Hotels announced its intention to debut Avani and Tivoli brands in the country in 2024.

DoubleTree by Hilton Al Sayh Residences has been signed together with Al Sorouh Hospitality Development Real Estate and is due to open its doors in 2022. Featuring 113 serviced apartments, 61 one-bedroom and 52 two-bedroom apartments, DoubleTree by Hilton Al Sayh Residences will be situated close to Bahrain Bay.

Meanwhile, Avani Bilaj Al Jazayer Bahrain Resort and Tivoli Bilaj Al Jazayer Bahrain Resort will be part of Bilaj Al Jazayer, a new waterfront leisure mixed-use masterplan owned by Edamah, the real estate arm of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat. The new development will offer resorts, residential villas and apartments, food and beverage outlets, retail, offices and entertainment. The new Avani and Tivoli hotels, each with 110 keys, will open in 2024.

Enhancing regional connectivity has been the focus with ride-hailing services now reaching key Saudi Arabian cities from Bahrain and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi adding Manama to its roster, starting September 9.

Careem, the region’s first multi-service app, has expanded its intercity ride-hailing service from Bahrain to the Saudi Arabia, allowing users to book a luxury car ride across cities at their convenience. Residents of Bahrain can now benefit from booking one-way journeys to KSA (Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail, Buqaiq, Hufof, and Riyadh) from BD75 ($198) per ride.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a UAE national airline, announced that the flight to Bahrain International Airport will operate three times a week and tickets are on sale, with fares starting at Dh129 ($35).

Bahrain Airport Ccompany Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: “We are pleased to welcome Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and look forward to working with them to deliver a new and unique travel experience for our customers. This new route will further strengthen the historic ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UAE, making it more convenient for passengers to travel between our countries for business or leisure. Following the opening of the new Passenger Terminal earlier this year, we are in an even stronger position to ensure that all carriers experience improved levels of service, and that passengers enjoy a comfortable and hassle-free airport experience.”

Also last month, in the midst of these hospitality announcements, Bahrain added more countries to travel red list, in line with directives issued by the Government Executive Committee in response to recommendations made by the National Medical Taskforce for Combatting Covid-19. Passengers arriving from Red List countries, including those who have transited through Red List countries in the preceding 14 days, are prohibited from entry, with the exception of citizens or residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain (who must go mandatory quarantine).
