Try lakeside golf in Uganda

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, Kigo in Uganda, is all set to take golf in East and Central Africa to the next level when it unveils its one of a kind 18-hole golf course next month. Designed by Golf Plan USA, under the guidance of the Principal Architect - Kevin Ramsey, the course boasts of sweeping views of Lake Victoria, making it the region’s best golf destination. Its unique features include an 18-hole golf course isolated on a green island, and bent grass, which is a first in Uganda.

To mark the launch, an elite class of golfers will give the course its first tee off in shape of the Serena Johnnie Walker Open from October 3 to 6 this year.

The private golf club offers a stimulating layout for the ever-evolving golfer looking for an enjoyable putting experience. The club boasts of an academy sitting on 780 sqm of putting green, which acts as both a schooling and training facility, designed to replicate various shot areas such as short game area, a practice bunker and chipping green.

 “This is more than just a golf club; it is a premier golfing complex with improved facilities to encourage both the golfing and social aspect of the club. We hope to fulfil the aspirations of golfers and entice visitors to consider membership to either the golf club or golf academy,” says resort manager Frankline Nyakundi.

The golf club is also the only club house in Uganda with a fully equipped pro-shop selling world class golfing merchandise. It also hosts a restaurant, bar, one halfway house, a conference room, locker rooms as well as ladies and gents steam rooms to make it a complete golfing haven.

As we pursue our golf expansion plans, we encourage the public to take up golfing as a sport as well as the private sectors, support through association initiatives and sponsorships,” adds Nyakundi.

The golf club is already playing a major role in budding the next golfing generation by hosting bi-annual sports camps for children in April and August every year. This opportunity enables young players acquire great skills in the game at an early age, mentored and trained by a US Kids Club Certified Coach.

Golf enthusiasts from the UAE can consider this destination for their future golfing and leisure holidays. A short five-hour direct flight takes you to Entebbe, Uganda and a very short drive leads to the picturesque Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa. Geographically located on the line of equator in East Africa, the weather ranges between 16°C and 25°C from April through November, while the temperatures during the warmer months of December – March reach to a maximum of 30°C. 

With the opening of the Kampala - Entebbe Expressway, the picturesque Lake Victoria Golf Resort and Spa is now more accessible to golfers, business and leisure visitors.
