The Langham, Jeddah

Langham Hospitality Group announced an agreement with Advanced Hotels Company to manage a luxury urban hotel in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Strategically located by the new convention centre and with a 360-degree view of the city and Corniche, The Langham, Jeddah is expected to open in the summer of 2018.

The Langham, Jeddah will feature classic yet elegantly contemporary furnishings – a stylistic homage to the brand’s heritage as one of the premier grand hotels in Europe. Each of the 238 well-appointed rooms and 39 suites is equipped with the Langham signature Blissful bed, motorised drapes and separate large-format rain showers. Guests who prefer to live the high life may choose to stay in the opulent two-bedroom Royal Suite spanning 295 square metres with separate sitting, dining and cooking areas that allow for private entertaining.

TTN got a chance to speak to the CEO for more information on the group’s Middle East plans.

'We are delighted to introduce the Langham brand to Jeddah as we have been searching for the ideal location in the kingdom to add to our portfolio,' says Robert Warman, chief executive officer of Langham Hospitality Group. 'It is located near the Hajj terminal, which we think is a neat location and fits in perfectly with the Kingdom’s desire to have more people travelling on the train and staying overnight. It is also near a large-scale sporting complex.

'There is a big boom of construction happening on Makkah and Madinah, with hospitality chains scrambling over each other to establish their presence in the holy cities. With Langham’s ideal location near the Hajj terminal in Jeddah, the brand hopes to provide the luxury religious traveller a well-rounded experience outside of the holy cities as well. 'When the train is ready, the dynamics of the pilgrimage may change. People may not want to live within the cities but stay in Jeddah and travel up and down as needed.'

'In the Middle East, we already have two projects in Dubai, a Langham Place in Business Bay, which is expected to open in 2019 and one on the Palm Jumeirah. The one on Palm Jumeirah is sort of stalled, but we are confident that it will open at some point. In Doha, we have another two projects, a Langham Place in Lusail and shortly, we are going to announce another property, for which we are partnering with the royal family, and which will be a unique concept that we cannot reveal much about right now!'

'We have a hotel in London which has been popular with the Arab market for a long, long time. We have added new features to the hotel. We have opened a six-bedroom suite, possibly the largest suite in the city. We just renovated our hotel, a full refurbishment. There were 115 guestrooms, which have now been remodelled into five residences with private kitchenettes, about 15 suites and the cherry on the cake is, of course, the six-bedroom suite.'
